The Balcony Bird series (4 paintings in all) came to life after a death. In that liminal time, birds showed up, like messengers, reassuring and comforting us in surprising moments. 
 
Each piece in the series represents a stage of the journey of my husband's Mum - from the realisation that the end is close, to the liberation of fully reaching 'the other side' (whatever and wherever that might be!). Each piece has buried treasures - like 60 year old telegram fragments - buried in their layers.
